Get involved with the policy review
19 November 2008
In October 2006, the Prime Minister announced a major policy review process in which ordinary people will
have the chance to directly influence government decisions and long term strategic thinking.
A world where change is faster, more far-reaching and global than ever sets big challenges for all Governments and all organisations. Britain - with a stable economy, fine universities, a well-educated population and improving public services - is better placed than most countries to succeed in the modern world. But continued success depends upon identifying long-term trends and new challenges and examining how existing policies need to be changed to continue to meet the country’s priorities.
This is the aim of the six working groups - each chaired by a Cabinet minister - set up by the PM to examine the main areas of policy. The overall policy areas are:
- Economic Dynamism
- Environment and Energy
- Public Services
- Security, Crime and Justice
- The Role of the State
- Britain and the World
Each working group will look at the long-trends likely to impact on their policy areas and come up with solutions to the new challenges identified.
But the Cabinet recognised that finding workable and lasting solutions is not just a matter for Government. So the aim of the policy review is to draw in expertise
and experience from outside bodies, experts and the public.
With that in mind, this website will host a number of virtual seminars in which we hope the stakeholders involved in the working groups will put forward and debate
their opinions on policy areas, making the seminar process more transparent.
The findings of these seminars will be presented to all those on each policy review working group. These are views that will be heard.
The virtual seminars will be launched during the review process. If you would like notification when each seminar is live on this site, sign up for an email alert
here:
There will be a more direct form of public engagement with our webchat series. Senior ministers from each working group will appear live on this site to answer directly your questions on their area of the policy review. This is your chance to put your views directly to senior government figures. Again, these will be launched during the process. If you want an email alert when these webchast go live, sign up here:
Please note the information you enter for email alerts is held by a third party and not by the Prime Minister’s Office and will be used for this purpose only and will not be retained beyond this process.
